Rural water agreement approved
By Julie Arbach
Customers near Underwood will now have an opportunity to purchase rural water through McLean-Sheridan Rural Water. The commission reviewed a contract with McLean-Sheridan at the Monday night meeting, to supply water to customers near Underwood. The rural water carrier will be charged $1500 per connection and a water rate fee of $1 higher than city water rates. After reviewing details of the contract, Ron Manchester of Toman Engineering told the commission he felt something should be included to protect the city from expenses incurred, if excessive water is lost due to a leak. It should be spelled out in the contract that McLean-Sheridan is responsible for the lost water. Manchester said the city should also stipulate that each connection be inspected by the city engineer.
