Redux project raises questions

By Suzanne Werre, BHG News Service

Representatives of Northridge Hospitality Management were met with plenty of questions Monday night when they presented their plan to change the use of the former Prairieview Nursing Home into an extended-stay hotel/lodge to the city zoning and planning board as well as several residents attending the meeting. The planning and zoning board took no action on the request by Northridge Hospitality for a conditional use permit to change the nursing home into a lodge, opting to see if more questions can be answered regarding the use of the building, the safety precautions that will be taken, and key to the city commission, which held its meeting immediately following the zoning meeting, if the Underwood Clinic would be able to remain in the building. Tyler Demars, Underwood’s economic development coordinator, said the key to having those questions answered the way Underwood residents want them answered is by including certain conditions in the conditional use permit. The city can require that certain stipulations are met in order for the group to obtain the permit. If the stipulations are not met, the permit request could be denied or could be taken away if it is found the conditions are not continuing to be met.
