Rec center ideas already taking shape

Change could be in the wind after the recent meeting with Gov. Doug Burgum’s Main Street Initiative representatives, members of the North Dakota Department of Commerce.
At Wednesday’s regular Underwood Civic Club meeting, Underwood Farm Supply’s Paul Cabrera informed the group that he is seriously considering turning some of the space at the UFS Lodge into teen rec center.
It is, however, very much still in the feasibility-study phase.
He has emailed a letter to the students at the Underwood School, which they’re supposed to forward to their parents. The goal is for him to be able to gauge interest from both the students and their parents.
“It’s got to be self-sustaining,” said Cabrera. “This might be a membership thing where the kids sign up for a one year or six-month membership.”
“We’re reaching out to the kids and their parents, and we need some feedback,” said Cabrera. “If I get approval, I’ll start getting all the numbers together to see what things cost. I don’t want to go too far if I don’t get approval.”
