The Harvest Fest is over and done, and the Underwood Civic Club members are looking forward to the next big event the group puts on, the Go Loco for Local promotion, hoping to make this year’s event bigger and better than ever.
Go Loco for Local is set for Friday, Oct. 28, starting at 5 p.m.
The Go Loco for Local chili cook-off and costume contests have become big draws for community members. The members at Wednesday’s regular meeting suggested that the businesses that are participating in the cook-off walk-around really use the day to promote their businesses, as there is a lot of foot traffic going in and out of the businesses that day.
Jeff Higbie suggested the business owners could possibly print coupons for their businesses that they would hand out as visitors stop in to taste-test their chili entries, “or maybe have some sort of tchotchke or something,” said Higbie.
There will be a grand prize drawing of $200 given out at the city hall after the votes are counted, at 7:30 p.m. The event will run from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and will feature a Best Chili contest, as well as a Best Experience competition within the civic club businesses. The grand prize will go to the random drawing winner who judged each one of the different chili offerings.
