The sale of Coal Creek Station and the High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC)
transmission system is complete. Rainbow Energy celebrated the acquisition Monday at the Underwood plant’s transmission building. In addition to Rainbow Energy President Stacy Tschider, special guests Governor Burgum, Lt. Governor Sanford, Senators Hoeven and Cramer, and McLean County Commissioner Steve Lee all gave remarks to commemorate the culmination of a project that took the dedication of leaders from Washington to McLean County to complete.
“Senator Jessica Bell has supported this since day one,” Sanford said of the District 33 Senator. “She committed early to make this project a reality, and she has been a champion through the entire process.”
The purchase of the plant not only secures Coal Creek employees’ jobs, it provides job security for employees at the neighboring Falkirk mine.
