Radke honored as Grand Marshal of Harvest Fest parade

Jerry Radke plans to hand in the keys to the City of Underwood after 17 years as the public works superintendent. He made the announcement a couple weeks ago and to honor his time with the city, Radke was chosen as the Grand Marshal of the Harvest Fest parade this Saturday. Radke, 63, said he was surprised to hear that he was selected but was honored at the selection. While Radke was not born in Underwood, he was raised here, attended school here and lived here most of his life. Radke has been married to his wife Janine for the last 39 years. They have two boys together, Blaine, who lives in Surprise, Ariz., and Chad, who lives in Arlington, Neb. Before coming to work for the City of Underwood, Radke worked at the Glen-Herald Mine near Stanton for 21 years. His work with heavy machinery and maintenance made him qualified for the position and he felt that a job in Underwood would beat having to eat out of a lunch pail everyday.
