Racers to use more of fairgrounds

The Underwood City Commission welcomed a summer full of racing Monday night as McLean County Racers Association President Beau Simmons addressed the commission regarding the old baseball diamond/football field property at the fairgrounds.

Simmons asked if the racers could use the property to park their trailers, so they would be able to use more of the current speedway property area for the pits.

The association would like to make improvements to the current guardrail to make it safer for the drivers, and that would require a change in the pit area.

"We would leave it as is, just park the haulers in there," said Simmons, when asked if they would be looking to make any changes to the baseball field area.

Diane Schell, speaking on behalf of the McLean County Fair Board, said that parking space is basically what the fair board uses the baseball field property for, too, livestock trailers, carnival trucks, etc., but that they use it only during the fair.
