Poised for a warm winter
Conditions are expected to be warmer and drier than average this winter, according to climate officials presenting a 2023-24 season forecast last week.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released its winter 2023-24 outlook Oct. 19, when department officials presented their expectations for the upcoming December, January and February.
The majority of North Dakota is within an area of the country with a 40-50 percent chance for above-average temperatures this winter. All but the southernmost 50 miles of the state, primarily east of Bismarck, is projected for the increase that NOAA attributes to El Niño conditions.
