Pitch Perfect: McLean County Music Festival Celebrates Talent and Dedication

On Saturday, March 1st, the McLean County Music Festival brought together young musicians from various schools to showcase their talents. The event featured students displaying their hard work and passion for music.
One of the judges, Brian Saylor, Director of Choral Activities at Bismarck High School, provided insightful feedback to the students. “Think about phrasing,” Saylor suggested to a participant. “Ask yourself, ‘What do I want the overall phrase to sound like?’ and follow that through. Create that dynamic contrast.” To a group ensemble, he gently advised, “Battle that internal nervousness. Take a deep breath, step forward, and be confident that you did the work.”
Music teacher Dustin Moe shared his experiences and the significance of the festival. Moe has been teaching at Washburn Public School for 15 years, where he teaches a range of music classes, from 5th and 6th grade general music to high school choir and band
