There are still a lot of moving parts that need to fall together, but according to McLean County State’s Attorney Ladd Erickson, an official bid to purchase Coal Creek Station has been made to Great River Energy by a potential buyer.
Erickson briefly updated county commissioners on the progress on the potential sale of the coal-burning power plant at their Tuesday meeting, saying, “What’s fair to say is there’s a company interested in coming in and, over time, expanding the Coal Creek operation to more of an energy park. They have some other businesses they want to develop out there.
“The core of it is going to be a lignite coal operation providing base load power to two grids. There will be supplemental side businesses developed that they’re interested in getting going kind of, more or less right from the start,” he added.
