One week of school down, 38 to go
By Michael Johnson, Editor
Underwood High School principal Lee Weisgarber started his first day as principal at 7 a.m. on Aug. 25. Even though he had all summer to prepare, nothing can really prepare a person for a large group of high school students. As an administrator he took on the roles of broken locker fixer, ITV connection wizard, handbook translator and student credit checker. Students rolled in wearing the latest styles and carrying the latest technology devices. Both of which Weisgarber addressed during the first hour. Students found their lockers, and each grade headed to a different room to go over the guidelines and to elect new student officers. All high schoolers then headed to the gym for a slideshow of the changes to the student handbook. There was a slight tension as Weisgarber went over some new rules and students questioned the line between rights and privileges. Weisgarber said he explained the changes to the students last spring and after board approval, most were added to the handbook.
