Nursing home residents go their separate ways
By Michael Johnson, Editor
Saying goodbye wasn’t easy for at least one elderly woman exiting the doors of the Sanford Health Continuing Care Center in Underwood. Her family had the car warmed up and ready to go. As they helped her to the door a staff member grabbed one more hug and wished her the best of luck in her new residence. It’s been a theme playing out regularly as residents are being assisted by Sanford Health administration in finding new residency. When word broke that the nursing home would be closing by March 15, many families wasted no time searching for local options for their relatives in need of long-term care. It’s a frustrating situation because, for many of the residents, Underwood was home. For many, the staff, those that care for their every need from day to day, are like family. A son of a resident at the home left upset about the ordeal that same day. He didn’t want to take his father from his home.
