New track approved at $358,000

Athletes of Underwood will soon enjoy the benefits of a new track along with improvements to all field event areas except for a pole vault after Underwood board members approved the $358,277 project on April 24. During the previous meeting, the board members approved moving forward with the track in order to have a formal contract written. After reviewing it further, board members failed to pass a motion to go with the project that included the pole vault area for $378,000. Board member Susan Trautman stated that if they are going to spend this much money to bring the track facilty back into use, they should fix all areas, including the pole vault area. A second motion, which removed the pole vault area from the improvement project was passed with all in favor except board member Kristie Seidler, who commented that the cost was still too high.
