Motorists can prepare for winter driving

Whether you are traveling with a child in the backseat, you are pulling a trailer, or simply driving alone, any type of travel in dangerous winter conditions can be both frightening and stressful. After the recent blizzard brought whiteout conditions to the Washburn area, many drivers were quickly reminded of how unsafe these winter months can be for drivers. Roads were closed last week, due to the high number of semi trucks and automobiles in the ditches. With that sudden reminder that winter is here, now is the time to begin planning for a safe winter driving season. Though many organizations, including the AAA say that the best advice for driving in bad weather is simply to not drive at all, that is impossible for most people living in and around the Washburn community. Since driving is a part of many people’s daily routine, all drivers are advised to wait until the snow plows and sanding trucks have cleared the roads. When driving after a heavy snowfall, remember to give yourself extra time to reach your destination. There are several ways to prepare yourself for the harsh winter conditions. Always try to get a full night’s rest, and check the Internet, television or radio for up-to-date information on the roads that you will be traveling.
