MidSummer Classic is ON

Patience is definitely a virtue the organizers of Underwood’s MidSummer Classic. The organizers of the car show/street dance held off as long as they could on making
a decision on whether or not to cancel the event, finally making the decision on June 2 that the 10th annual MidSummer Classic will go on as planned on June 27 in downtown Underwood. As planned, with just a few tweaks to make sure they’re following whatever ND Smart Restart guidelines are in effect at that point. “It was a unanimous club
decision,” said Connie Pickar, who lined up the two bands for this year’s Classic. “We were just listening to Burgum every time and when he lifted gatherings from the 250 to
500, that’s kind of what made our decision.” And then when restaurants were allowed to open to almost full capacity, that solidified their decision. The group had hoped to
make its decision in May, but opted to wait a little longer as it became obvious the guidelines for being able to hold events were changing daily. “We thought let’s hold off
a couple weeks, let’s see what happens,” Pickar said. She is confident this year’s car show, afternoon full of events and evening street dances will bring in more people than before.
“I think since so much has been canceled, people are just going to be eager to come to something,” Pickar said. “It’s our 10-year anniversary, so we definitely are going to
celebrate that.” The parade of show cars, motorcycles and other vehicles will start at noon, with the show running downtown on Lincoln Ave. from 12:30-3:00 p.m. Other events, including a burn-out contest, a frozen T-shirt contest, vendors, and a Kidzone will be going on throughout the day, all leading up to the two-band street dance. Moments Notice
will take to the stage at 4:30 p.m., followed by Tripwire starting at 9:30 p.m. Whi le the car show is undeniably the big draw to the Classic, the other activities should bring in a pretty good crowd too.
