Later this month, patron members of Falkirk Farmers Elevator Company will decide the future of their co-op. In preparation for the Feb. 23 meeting where a decision will be made, an informational meeting was held this past Thursday in Riverdale. The merger, if approved, would be with CHS and would make the Falkirk Elevator part of the Garrison Farmers Union Elevator business unit. (The Garrison facility has been operating as a division of CHS since 2001). If the merger is approved, the Falkirk facility would be known as CHS Falkirk. Prior to opening the floor for questions, several individuals took part in a PowerPoint presentation that highlighted key information about CHS and the benefits of the proposed merger. Addressing the 60+ people who had gathered, Mike Guenthner, president of the Falkirk board, said the proposal is proactive, a move to better position Falkirk for the future. He said, “We are solvent …. (but) we need to make plans for growth.”
