McLean County celebrates 125th
By Stu Merry, BHG News Service
Did you know McLean County is actually older than the state of North Dakota? Well, it is, and county officials celebrated the occasion during the regular meeting of the board of commissioners Nov. 5 with an anniversary cake. The official date – the county’s 125th anniversary – is Nov. 2. North Dakota celebrated its 119th anniversary on the same date. County Auditor/Treasurer Les Korgel distributed a McLean County fact sheet to county employees during the celebration. The sheet listed all of the county commissioners and county auditors from 1883 to the present, including the years served. The county has had 20 auditors – the first being Edward W. Gray who served from Nov. 1, 1883, to March 1, 1884.
