Marina on schedule for spring opening

The 18-foot increase in the level of Garrison reservoir this year is most welcome, but it has tested the contractor working on the new marina at the Fort Stevenson State Park. So say U. S. Army Corps of Engineers officials in Omaha. Despite the construction challenges, the marina is still expected to be open for business in time for the start of the 2009 recreation season, a Corps spokesperson said. With rising lake water this summer the Corps modified its contract with Martin Construction of Gladstone, to raise the level of the cofferdam five feet higher than the original design. The cofferdam, which holds the reservoir water back from the work site, was designed to a height of elevation 1825 feet.
