‘Uncorked’ is unqualified success

They all painted the same picture, yet every one of the 50-plus artists paintings was one-of-a-kind, as the artists participating in the "Uncorked" evening at the city hall Friday night put their own unique spin on their artwork.

Artists from Bismarck’s Theo Art School were on hand Friday night to lead a room full of aspiring (at least for a couple hours) painters through the how-tos of painting a scene depicting something reminiscent of the northern lights in a rural landscape.

Nina Loeks led the painting tutorial, walking around the auditorium as the painters worked on their pieces.

"It’s been fun," said Loeks. "We want everybody to have fun, to have a good experience and to be happy with what they go home with."

Before the painting started, Loeks took a poll of those attending the event, asking how many had painted on a canvas before. A large majority had never painted on a canvas before, and that was just fine with Loeks.

"This is something a lot of them have never done before, and they’re realizing that they’re capable of doing something like this," said Loeks. "People just don’t realize what they have inside and what they’re capable of doing.
