Local Tae Kwon Do shoots for the spars

Underwood Tae Kwon Do instructor Gary Adam is taking local Tae Kwon Do students to another level this year as they will be able to spar and enter tournaments now that his Underwood and Turtle Lake Tae Kwon Do clubs are associated with Northwest Martial Arts, and he is back training under seventh-degree Master Roy Gilbertson.
Literally, Tae Kwon Do means art of foot and hand fighting, and it originates in Korea.
Adam, a third-degree black belt, has been doing martial arts since 1991 and began his Tae Kwon Do club in Underwood six years ago. He made a change with his own training recently, going back to his original instructor not only because he can keep improving his own skills, but because now the Underwood club will be associated with Northwest Martial Arts, and that is going to open new avenues for his students.
"They’re going to start doing a lot of sparring this year," said Adam, who anticipates entering some of his students in sparring tournaments.
Some of his students are definitely excited about the new competitive aspect.
