It won’t just be the radio personalities’ voices and songs you may be recognizing on the radio these days, as two of Underwood’s high school students will be hitting the radio airwaves and YouTube after the video they produced was chosen by the First District Health Unit as the winner in a recent radio ad contest.

Sophomores Devyn Schmitcke and Thomas Heidelberger submitted the winning radio ad, which will be featured on Minot radio stations, WGO and KIZZ. The release date was coordinated with Kick Butts Day on March 19, an annual event where youth speak out against the tobacco industry.

Students were given the three options to choose from for their videos: tobacco tax, tobacco industry manipulation or dangers of emerging tobacco products.

Devyn and Thomas picked the hidden dangers of E-cigarettes, which a lot of people say are absolutely harmless. They’re marketed as a safe alternative to smoking, but it has been proven that e-cigarettes contain carcinogens and toxic chemicals, including an ingredient used in antifreeze.
