Legion remembers fallen soldiers

“Their souls go marching on. Because of them, our lives are free. Because of them, our nation lives.”
Turtle Lake America Legion Commander Marvin Anseth’s voice broke a little as he spoke those words Monday morning as he remembered his fallen friends and comrades.
Anseth was joined by members of the Lawrence Stephenson Post 133 and members of the community as they paid homage to America’s fallen veterans, POWs and MIAs, and Auxiliary members at the annual Memorial Day Service in Turtle Lake.
This year’s service was moved from to the school back to the American Legion Hall, and was followed immediately by an outside memorial service at the American flag-lined hall that included placement of a memorial wreath, reading the Roll to Post Everlasting, a rifle salute to departed comrades, and the playing of Taps.
During his message to the attendees, Pastor Steve Vetter reminded everyone of what a privilege it is to be free.
