LEC utilized by other agencies

Having a new state-of-the-art law enforcement facility in McLean County is paying dividends. Officials received the monthly report from County Sheriff Don Charging during a meeting earlier this month. Officials were told the law enforcement center averaged 12 male prisoners and two female prisoners in November. Before the new jail was built, the average was six prisoners. The big difference comes in the income. Total income for November was $19,010. Since the law enforcement center opened in June, the average income has been about $3,196 per month. Weekly income has been about $800. Charging said he expects those figures to increase. "There’s no doubt," he said. When the old jail was operational, income to the county averaged $55 per month; that came from Sheridan County, which has no jail. It was noted that the center is receiving quite a bit of use from outlying departments, including Bismarck, Sheridan County, Morton and Burleigh counties and North Dakota Parole and Probation. Also using the facility this past month was the Ward County Sheriff’s Department and U. S. Border Patrol.
