Underwood’s Taryn Kjelstrup is the newest member of the Underwood School Board, having been appointed by the other board members at their regular monthly meeting July 23. Kjelstrup replaces outgoing school board president Dan Leidholm, who turned down re-election to the board at the recent election. Leidholm was presented an appreciation plaque for his 13 years of service on the board. Kjelstrup will begin her service on the board at the August meeting. The board also elected its officers for the coming year, with Brad Landenberger taking the president’s position and Sue Trautman vice-president. In other business, the board raised the price of school lunches by 10 cents as required by the federal government. School lunches will  be $2.20 for elementary students, $2.45 for junior high and high school students, and $3.00 for adults. The cost for breakfast will remain the same. Superintendent Brandt Dick noted that the lunch costs will probably go up again next year, as the school needs to meet the federal guidelines cost of $2.51. “The federal government says we have to increase until we hit that magic number,” said Dick.
