Julie’s place - Where flowers bloom

Around Underwood, Julie Driessen is known as a long-time teacher and entrepreneur teacher extraordinaire.
Around Sherwood, however, she is quite possibly known as the "flower lady who makes beautiful arrangements."
Each year around this time, Julie goes to work picking flowers from her colorful flower garden, and putting them together into a variety of different arrangements so she can enter them in the Sherwood Garden Club Flower Show, a show her mother, Ethel Hanson, helped start 34 years ago.
At Thursday’s "Petalmania" show, in Sherwood, Julie earned seven awards, including a blue ribbon earned by her petunia bouquet that she put together the day of the show.
The night before the show, however, her kitchen and dining room were awash in color as she prepared the 26 bouquets, each entered in a different category, she planned to enter into the show. The petunia arrange-ment was number 27, so she had an entry for all of the categories.
"A lot of people know I do this, but I don’t think they know to what extent," she said. "I don’t think they have a clue."
