Internet safety focus of Sunday program

North Dakota is no longer the little cocoon, a safe haven from outside forces, it once was. Actually, no place with access to the internet is safe anymore.
That’s the idea Faith Evangelical Church’s Jeff Higbie is going to try hit home with area parents this Sunday. Not only reminding them to be aware of what kids can be exposed to on the internet, but helping them know what to look out for.
There’s no doubt – today’s kids are a lot more tech savvy than their parents who really didn’t grow up with the internet and the digital age.
Sunday’s program is training and information, he said. “It’s essentially information on how to help families keep their kids safe online – safe from a number of different things.
Higbie has some stats to reinforce the information he’ll be giving out this Sunday from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Underwood City Hall.
“Kids 8-18 spend on average 7.5 hours on various media,” said Higbie. “They’re not interacting face-to-face – 7.5 hours a day on some form of media.”
