Horizons program comes to completion
By Michael Johnson, Editor
For the past 18 months a group of Underwood residents have participated in the Horizons project, a program that works to build leaders that can reduce poverty in the community. The program is funded by Northwest Area Foundation and the 15 North Dakota communities that are part of this phase of development are supported by North Dakota State University. As part of the program the participants took part in various training sessions including: Study Circles: This requires 12 hours of active planning over a two month period about poverty. It involves identifying poverty in the city and ways to reduce it. Leadership training: This portion involves 20 members of the community to teach each one that they can be leaders in the community. Community visioning: This focuses on making community members leaders and reducing poverty.
