Good crowd despite cool weather at county fair

Looking over the three days of festivities at the McLean County Fair it appears the switch to Friday through Sunday schedule was a good choice for the fair board members. Despite cooler temperatures and some moisture Friday and Saturday, attendance was similar to last year, which had much clearer weather. Fair board president, Diane Schell, was pleased with the overall turnout of the fair. The gate numbers were similar to last year, carnival goers were up slightly and the barn was full of animals. It doesn’t get much better than that. For the youth that showed exhibits inside or animals outside, the weather wasn’t a problem at all. "I think we had an excellent fair," McLean County Agent Pat Carpentier said. "The weather cooperated and we were up maybe 25 percent on exhibits." With premium sales doing well and higher numbers of youth showing, the fair was definitely a success from the 4-H standpoint, according to Michelle Effertz, McLean County Extension Agent.
