Giving locks, going for walks – county battles cancer

Underwood fourth-grader Sydnie Diffely won’t be able to walk her usual laps at the Relay For Life activities this past Friday in Underwood because her family had another commitment, but she has already been doing quite a bit to help the cause. She’s had a lemonade stand, and she’s made bracelets that people can buy, and most recently she gave the hair on her head – about 10 inches of it. Her hair didn’t exactly go to Relay For Life – it went to Locks of Love, which makes wigs for people undergoing chemotherapy because of cancer.
This is the first time Sydnie has had her hair actually cut, rather than just a little trim, said her mom Jayme. Everyone is used to Sydnie having long hair.
"I was actually worried what grandpa would think because grandpa loved her long hair," said Jayme. "But I was also thinking it’s summer, and it’s getting so hard to take care of."
She needn’t have worried. Grandpa loves the new hairdo, and so does everyone else. And they love that Sydnie came up with the idea to donate her hair to Locks of Love by herself.
"I was kind of surprised she even knew what all that was," said Jayme. "I said, ‘If you’re up for it, we’ll talk to (the stylist) and see what she says.
