First on minister’s to-do list – Sunday School
There’s nothing like coming to minister at two new churches right before Christmas.
Right before Thanksgiving, actually, as Rev. Nathan Schieber (pronounced sheeber), and his family moved to Underwood, answering the call to minister at Underwood’s St. John and rural Pick City’s Trinity Lutheran Churches.
They arrived in Underwood the Sunday before Thanksgiving, and following installation the next week, Pastor Schieber has been ministering to the two flocks ever since.
Schieber was most recently an associate pastor at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Frankfurt, Ill., and he wasn’t really looking to leave, he said.
Churches typically send out a letter asking if a pastor is interested in receiving a call, he noted. This time, St. John and Trinity just went ahead and sent out a call to him. That really resonated with him.
“This church went straight up and said ‘we’re calling you’,” he recalled. They said they had looked through the information he had submitted in the self-evaluation tool (SET), and the churches must have thought he would be a pretty good fit.
