Fighting to stay alive

Underwood is in danger of losing its ambulance service.
Underwood EMS/Fire Department members Cory Neff, Ambulance Squad Leader, and Bob Hovdenes, Fire Chief, were at Monday’s city commission meeting to discuss the dire situation with the commissioners, saying that the State Health Department is looking at having to pull the plug on the department.
"We’re getting looked at by the health department for not making some calls," said Neff. "There’s just a handful of us keeping the ambulance going now, for a number of years."
Neff wondered if there are funding opportunities for the department so the department could look at paying an EMT or paramedic to be on-call.
"It could get pretty spendy to go for a paid service," said Hovdenes.
They told the commissioners that the department is down to four or five EMTs that are going on runs.
