Deputy Ross, at your service

No, there wasn’t a spate of crime in Underwood Halloween Eve, as folks were witness to multiple homes with a pair of McLean County Sheriff’s Office vehicles parked outside of homes with lights on and three sheriff’s deputies walking up to the houses.
If they’d looked closely, folks would have noticed one of those deputies looked a little smaller than the other two. That was Underwood fourth-grader Arya Ross, who worked with the sheriff’s department to get an authentic deputy’s uniform, badge and handcuffs so she could go dressed as a McLean County Sheriff’s Deputy for Halloween. The department threw in the two cruisers and two deputies to go trick-or-treating with her, just to make things even more authentic.
Arya actually met with Deputy Justin Krohmer last Wednesday afternoon to get her uniform, badge and cuffs, and was treated to a tour of the Sheriff’s Department.
Arya would have been content just to get a uniform, but Wednesday as he talked about the upcoming night, Krohmer thought the department could do more.
“We’re going to pull up to a couple houses with the lights on just to give a little bit of excitement,” he said.
Arya was originally planning to be part of a “cops and robbers” theme, but when her costume partner changed her mind, she decided she’d still stick with the “cops” theme. Rather than order a costume, Arya’s mom Ashley decided to give the sheriff’s department in Washburn a quick call.
