A club originally aimed at giving homeschooled kids in the area a chance for alternative learning has grown into a group of local robotics clubs with more than 20 members. Alisha Schieber, owner of the Hymnus Tree in Washburn, launched a Robotics club for homeschooled youth in September, with hopes of offering a unique educational experience to whoever was interested. “Originally I intended to solely
start a homeschool robotics group as a way to offer a hands-on STEM robotics learning experience to various homeschool families, my kids included,” Schieber said. But a f ter asking community members for feedback on the idea, she found there was interest beyond what
she had been planning. “When I put out a feeler post about offering a homeschool program I also had several public school parents message me asking if I’d consider offering Robotics for their kids as well,” Schieber said. “With an overwhelming positive response to both programs we jumped in and offered both.” Schieber said there are currently 15 homeschooled students in one of two robotics groups, which each meet every other week.
