Commissioners hope for low bids Monday

The Underwood City Commission continued discussion on the proposed street/curb and gutter project, and tried to wrap up a few loose ends with last year’s flood water project at Monday’s regular commission meeting.

Currently, the estimated cost for the project is at just over $3.77 million, which includes not just the work on the streets, curbs and gutters, but testing, legal, engineering, administrative and contingency costs, as well.

Commissioner Jay Snyder noted that originally the commissioners had hoped to cap the project cost at about $2.5 million.

"I don’t want to spend almost $4 million on this project, said Snyder.

Abe Ulmer of Toman Engineering said the commissioners should wait until the bids come in to see what the costs look like, and then be ready to negotiate.

Bids will be opened this Monday starting at 6 p.m. at the Underwood City Hall.
