Commission denies city hall use as co-op drop site

The Underwood City Commissioners want to make sure they stay in the information loop when the county planning and zoning is eventually approached by Great River Energy about putting a hazardous waste landfill near Underwood. Commissioners approved sending a letter to the McLean County Commissioners saying they would like to be present at the meeting when the proposed landfill is discussed at an upcoming county planning and zoning meeting and would like to be involved in the discussion. The commissioners also decided they wanted more information before moving ahead with a proposed water drainage plan that was presented at the last commission meeting. Commissioners Rick Olson, Jim Bailey and Jay Snyder agreed they did not feel comfortable making a decision about the proposed plan submitted by Moore Engineering, which would end up going beneath a portion of Borchardt Ave. on the south edge of Underwood, without getting input from commissioners Roger Britton and Steve Cottingham, who were not at the meeting. The commissioners agreed they should all go look at the embankment on the south side of Pryor’s Slough to see if there is another alternative to the proposed plan.
