Commission approves ’20 prelim budget

The Underwood City Commission made quick work of tying up a couple loose ends regarding a couple of sewer issues that surfaced this past year – one that became an issue back in 2014 during the flood water project work on Borchardt Ave., and the other this winter when the city was hit with several water main breaks.
The commissioners voted unanimously to reimburse both homeowners, Ashlie and Jesse Walcker, whose sewer backed up this spring due to work done on Borchardt Ave. five years ago, and Joe and Sandy LaDuke, who suffered a sewer backup this past February. The commissioners approved reimbursing LaDukes a little more than $5200 for work, while reimbursing the Walkers a little more than $10,000.
Both incidents are being referred to the North Dakota Insurance Relief Fund for possible reimbursement to the city.
The commissioners followed that special meeting with a special meeting to approve the 2020 annual city budget.
They approved the budget that shows a mill levy of 69.78 mills, which is a 12 percent increase over this year. The maximum number of mills that could be levied to the general fund is 105, noted city auditor Diane Schell.
