Coal Creek Station delay
A new hurdle in the permit transfer regarding the sale of Coal Creek Station surfaced Friday as Minnesota’s Public Utilities Commission (MPUC) voted 4-1 to defer the sale of the Coal Creek Station. John Tuma, the commissioner who asked for the delay, said he expects the approval process could be held up a couple more months.
Lyndon Anderson, communications representative for Great River Energy reiterated Monday, “We are proceeding through the permit transfer process and anticipate to have the sale finalized by the end of the year.”
Minnesota regulators gave Nexus 30 days to submit a decommissioning plan in the event the high-voltage power line that runs from the Coal Creek Station plant to a facility near Buffalo,
northwest of Minneapolis. is ever permanently shut down. They also want financial assurances that the company can meet its commitments if that happens, and more information on the sources for the power that the line would carry. A schedule for submitting replies and public comments will be set after receipt of the plan by MPUC.
