Classic car show getting ‘fast and furious’

The organizers of this year’s 6th Annual MidSummer Classic in Underwood are making plans for an even bigger and better event, adding a new class of cars to the car show competition.
The car show committee approved adding divisions for domestic and imported modifieds to this year’s competition at the suggestion of Michael Mercado, a new member to the group.
Described by one of the members as the "Fast and Furious-type" cars, those in attendance overwhelmingly agreed to add the class to the competition.
At this point, they’ll just be dividing the cars into domestic and import models rather than dividing them up into different years, but if the "suped-up" muscle cars are a popular entry, they could end up being divided by years.
The annual event, set for June 25, in downtown Underwood, is centered around the car show, which brings competitors and spectators in from all around the state. There are trophies presented in several divisions, including a Best in Show, awarded by the judges, and a People’s Choice award, which is chosen by the votes of the spectators.
The cars, motorcycles, pickups and other collectible vehicles are the highlight and the focus of the Classic, but other events are bringing folks in, too, noted one of the event organizers, Jim Hatzenbuhler.
