"We got a lot of things planned today," summed up the civic club’s Chastity Aasheim after last Wednesday’s meeting.
The members of the Underwood Civic Club ironed out plans for the upcoming Go Loco For Local chili cook-off later this month, the turkey drawings in November, the Hometown Holiday activities for December, and made a decision regarding the Harvest Fest, which will be held next August – on a Saturday. Saturday, Aug. 8, to be more specific (see related story).
First up is the Go Loco For Local chili cook-off, which for the past few years has brought locals out in droves to sample the different chili concoctions of the local business owners, and picking a favorite to take top honors. Defending their title will be Kelli Weisenburger and Michele Leidholm of the Underwood Clinic, whose chili salad took top honors last year.
Weisenburger, who is one of the organizers of this year’s "Go Loco" campaign, says the event is a terrific opportunity for locals to get together with their kids.
"It’s a lot of fun. The kids get to wear their costumes . . . it’ just a lot of fun. And it’s usually good food," she added.
