City moving ahead with hall improvements

The city is spending about $135,000 to put on a new roof and install a new heating/cooling system in the city hall, taking a little money from here, and a lot of money from there to cover the costs. Noting that the city really hasn’t used much sales tax money for the general Underwood population, commissioner Roger Britton suggested taking $35,000 out of the city’s sales tax fund to help cover the costs, and the larger remaining $100,000 from the coal severance fund to cover the balance. Britton’s suggestion was unanimously agreed upon by the commissioners at Monday’s regular meeting. Commissioners approved the bid from H.A. Thompson/Frontier Electric for three rooftop units for an estimated $60,000 and also approved the bid from Twin City Roofing for an estimated $75,000 for a new rubber roof for the entire city hall building. The 1.5” polyurethane rubber roof will go over the existing insulation.
