Central McLean will not renew contract of record-breaking girls basketball coach
In a decision that has sent shockwaves through the Central McLean community, the Cougars girls basketball program has announced it will not be renewing the contract of Head Coach Ethan Vaagene.
When reached for comment, Underwood Public Schools Superintendent Todd Benson offered only a brief statement, citing personnel confidentiality.
“As this is a personnel issue, I am restrained from discussing any details, except to say that we are following through with a resignation plan initiated by our coach last June,” Benson stated.
Coach Vaagene, however, seemed to have a different understanding of the situation.
“I do not have any information to share. I have not been given any reasons why,” he said in response to questions about the district’s decision.
