Bowen exiting Underwood community developer position

Residents of Underwood have grown used to regularly reading the words of encouragement and strategy from Underwood’s community developer Becky Bowen since August of 2008. It was at that point that Bowen made her voyage to Underwood with the company Common Enterprise Development Corporation to see what could be done to get Underwood buzzing with energy. While the town is surrounded by energy there seemed to be something members of the Underwood Area Economic Development Association thirsted after.Bowen said she’s felt that energy here."There is an energy here, a very positive energy," she said.While it often felt like things were moving forward, she realizes that with three steps forward there were often two steps back. It’s that work in economic development that she tangoed with for four years. Bowen made her decision to return to North Carolina to care for her elderly mother earlier this year. This is her last work week in Underwood. She still plans to come back for volunteering.
