Beware! Macabre Manor is back in Underwood
By Todd M. Kjelland
A spooky, scary, hair-raising Halloween experience is taking shape in Underwood. Prepare for the annual Macabre Manor haunted house opening next week.
Doug Wolf and members of the Northeast Arts Counsel (NEAC) supported by the Underwood Civic Club are spearheading the region’s most popular Halloween attraction. Wolf, who doesn’t want to give away too much of the thrills and chills, is optimistic that this year’s ever-changing theme will keep people coming back for more.
Wolf explains the chilling history behind the haunted idea. “In the Summer of 2017 my son Kyle Wolf, an NEAC member, asked me if I would help him start up a haunted house here in Underwood based on a haunted house that I participated in the 1990s in Riverdale for the Music Boosters. Kyle, who was a child then, was scared, but really enjoyed it so much that he never forgot the experience. So, in the fall of 2016 we set about getting a place to do it. The fair board was gracious enough to let us use the barn at the fair grounds for the first Macabre Manor. A name that Kyle came up with.”
