Bailey resigns; water advisory group meets

After sitting through three and a half hours of updates on last year’s storm water drainage, this year’s street/sewer and concrete apron work, questions about who pays for what in the street project, gaming requests and building permit requests, and an update on the water plant discussion with representatives of the City of Riverdale and the North Central Rural Water Consortium, it was the last two minutes of Monday’s meeting that ended up being the most noteworthy and newsworthy.
In silence, City Commission President Leon Weisenburger opened a letter he received just prior to meeting, labled simply to him, and he read the letter of resignation from commissioner Jim Bailey.
Bailey submitted his resignation citing health issues and personal reasons, effective immediately.
Commissioner Patti Werre moved to accept Bailey’s resignation, with regret, and his resignation was approved.
The residents now have 15 days to petition to hold a special election to fill Bailey’s position, or if no petition is received, the commissioners may appoint someone to the unfulfilled position.
As previously stated, the majority of the 3-1/2-hour item was spent discussing several different issues, much of which Commissioner Jay Snyder missed, as he was late in coming to the meeting.
