Arts Council receiving funds for fixing

Since the Underwood Arts Council purchased the old Rose Theater building in April, they’ve had a shiny new coat of aluminum sealant sprayed on the building roof. A contractor was hired to do the work to help seal and extend the life of the exterior. The council’s hope is that the repair will go a long ways in stopping any leaking in the building, so that demolition and remodeling can begin inside. One thing that looks to boost that further construction is a recent grant approved for the council that will be used to make improvements to the building. The North Dakota Commerce Department approved a $4,000 grant for the council geared toward small business improvements. The council had to show they had $8,000 to use toward the project to gain approval. Paul Govig, deputy commissioner of the North Dakota Dept. of Commerce, said they have requested confirmation of that funding, and once they have that and proper documentation from the council’s bank, they could award the money. Govig said that the council provided the necessary information and showed that there was significant community support for the plans.
