Area bus driver shortage threatens sports schedule

Getting from Point A to Point B is really tough these days if you’re a Comet. A shortage of bus drivers has complicated transportation for extracurricular activities, and Underwood School Board members say the community needs to work together to provide drivers. Underwood High School Principal Gene Utecht said the school is struggling to find enough bus drivers to transport students to and from extracurricular activities. "Don’t be surprised if we have to cancel some games because we don’t have a driver," Utecht said. If a satisfactory driver situation is not reached, the school will be forced to cancel some sporting events, Utecht said. The school has been relying heavily on Turtle Lake-Mercer school district bus drivers to drive for events Underwood bus drivers were meant to be covering.
