SMCSCD treats attendees to dinner and entertainment
South McLean County Soil Conservation District (SMCSCD) celebrated their 75th anniversary and yearly awards Wednesday at the Turtle Lake American Legion. Over 125 people attended the celebration which included a dinner catered by Captain’s Cabin and
entertainment by Jessie Veeder.
The evening meal was preceded with the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance led by Turtle Lake American Legion member Jim Blotter, followed by Reverend Erin Gullickson and Jesse Veeder leading the prayer with the familiar Johnny Appleseed Grace song, which was well received by the soil conservationists in attendance.
Jesse Veeder, from rural Watford City, then entertained the crowd from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. with renditions of country music favorites and original songs about working women, rain and family Halloween memories. She also read relative stories from her book titled “Coming Home” which fit perfectly with the theme of soil conservation and the importance of trees.
